100 rocks (1-100g)
2012
100 rocks (Tapley Hill slate), acrylic paint and Nylon Flock
Dimensions variable

Inspired by the elegance of ancient, stone handaxes, this work explores humanity’s definitively obsessive drive to reshape the environment- a drive that predates our existence as a species. 100 rocks (1-100g) represents a poignantly calculated interaction- each rock having been selected and weighed, coloured (flocked) and arranged, relative to the other 99 rocks. Complemented by the irregularity of its individual elements, the formal structure of this collection sets up a contemplative space for the viewer to reflect on their relationship with the work and the environment at large.
